Verizon might not be the first to the phone-over-internet party, but it is hoping to gain some ground with the introduction of the Hub, starting on Feb 1st. The Hub is designed to be an all-in-one VoIP counter top device, with cordless phone, speaker phone, and 7" touch display for streaming [ads right [1]]weathers, news, traffic, movie clips, and purchasing tickets through Fandango. WiFi (802.11b/g) is also supported so that it can connect wirelessly to a WiFi enabled router, thus eliminating the need for a direct CAT5 connection. Current Verizon Wireless customers can use the Hub to connect to VZ Navigator and Chaperone services, as well as send pictures, text, and video messages between the Hub and their cell phone. Pricing of the device is expected to be $199 after $50 rebate, and will require a 2-year contract with $35/month access fee (which includes unlimited home phone VoIP and data).
